Jayson Tatum pulled up from the free-throw line and buried a jumper at the overtime buzzer Tuesday night, lifting the Celtics to a 125-124 win over the Brooklyn Nets at TD Garden for their third straight victory.

Tatum finished with 40 points on 10-of-20 shooting and went 18 of 22 from the line, a career high in free-throw attempts, according to NBC Sports Boston. He added eight assists and five rebounds.

How it ended

With 33.7 seconds left in regulation, Derrick White slipped behind the defense, took a pass from Tatum and dunked while being fouled. His free throw made it 114-111. Brooklyn tied it when rookie Mikel Brown Jr., the sixth pick in this year's draft, hit a 3-pointer with 0.2 seconds left, after Mitchell Robinson missed two free throws for Boston.

In overtime, Brown missed a layup with 2.3 seconds left. White inbounded to Tatum, who hit the winner.

MVP chants for White

The Garden crowd chanted “MVP” at White during his late trips to the line. “I didn’t know if they were talking about JT because he passed it to me,” White told Celtics.com. “The second time I was really confused.”

“D-White is my favorite teammate, one of my favorite people,” Tatum said. White finished with 16 points and seven assists.
